On July 9th, 2012, thousands of Americans may lose connectivity to the network. I discussed this about a month ago, if anyone remembers on this blog post.
To recap, the FBI confiscated a bunch of servers from scammers that had stolen a group of DNSes from American computers. Rather than fixing the problem, the FBI continued to let these computers connect to the servers up until this Monday on July 9th, 2012 when they will hut down the servers and your computer might lose access to the web.
Unfortunately, as I stated before, I still am not exactly sure about DNS and everything in between. The best solution that I can give you is to contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) which might be Verizon, Time Warner's Roadrunner, Comcast, or another company and ask them for help in reconnecting to the web. Their customer support should be able to get you back on your feet.
More than likely, I'd say that new computers should not have to worry about this. Of course, if your computer has lost access to the web, you probably can't even view this page.
Best of luck to you from all of us at WIFLI. Any additional information on this would be appreciated so that others can return to their lives. Feel free to leave that information in the comments' section.
